Videocon Mobile Services plans to rollout the 4-G platform across the seven telecom circles it is present in in India by the end of 2013, a senior official said on Thursday.

Talking to presspersons here, Arvind Bali, Director and CEO, said the company, which got new licences on January 18 this year, is now embarking on a 20-year-long ambitious journey with modern technology to derive the benefits of the two-decade period provided by the Government in its new, liberalised spectrum policy. “We will provide very high speed at a price 15-20 per cent lower than other telecom players. And we will maintain price levels for three years.”

Videocon’s aim is to make its telecom segment as popular as the group’s washing machines and TV sets, he said.

As part of its long-term business strategy, Videocon will set up stores or ‘experience zones’, in almost every mile in its circles for direct customer service to facilitate them to get even a Facebook or Twitter account opened. “We will redefine the whole business of telecom.”

In Gujarat, Bali said, the company is setting up a large call centre at Bharuch where Videocon has a factory and a 400-acre base for over two decades. The call centre, which will open in April, will have 1,000 seats for which it would make efforts to recruit 2,000 youths from tier-two and three towns. This is a first in telecom industry in which a major player will have its own call centre. Videocon will also double the number of its stores in the State to 100 and that of customers to two million in the next one year. It will also increase the number of towers from 2,200 now to 4,000 by end-2013.

Bali also launched extra value-for-money plans for new and existing prepaid customers in Gujarat.
