Storage solutions company Western Digital believes there is huge opportunity in India as the government stresses on localisation and storage of data.
“It will offer more opportunities for companies like ours. It will require a lot more data centre infrastructure and storage capacity will increase,” Supria Dhanda, Vice-President and Country Manager, Western Digital India, told BusinessLine .
Some of the issues that need to be addressed include storage of data at different levels and the capacity to access it quickly when needed, she said. “The government will have to decide how to architect the entire capacity — how you store, what you do with it.”
Western Digital has supported other countries in similar exercises, and claims to be in a good position to share its best practises, while keeping costs low. “India has a huge opportunity to be able to think through this because it is at a design stage,” said Dhanda.
Western Digital has been in talks with the government and is open to working with the latter if given an opportunity.
Western Digital said that the team for designing consumer products for India is based in the country. However, the company does not manufacture its products in India, but out of Malaysia and China.
