The government may consider allowing more exports of non-basmati rice, a top commerce ministry official said on Thursday.
Last month, the government had allowed exports of one million tonnes of non-basmati rice, lifting over three-year old ban.
But later, the Delhi High Court stayed the process of allocation of export quota to 82 exporters as some traders went to the court alleging faulty terms and conditions imposed by the Commerce Ministry for undertaking shipments. The Court has fixed the next date of hearing on September 7.
When asked whether the government could consider allowing more exports of non-basmati rice, Commerce Secretary Mr Rahul Khullar said “may be”.
