New crop lends colour to turmeric

Spot turmeric prices increased at Erode markets on Wednesday on back of quality arrivals. The buyers quoted ₹6,200 a quintal for coarse variety and ₹8,100 for good quality new turmeric. They also quoted higher prices for the old finger and root variety turmeric.

On Wednesday, 4,100 bags arrived for sale and 50 per cent of them were sold. At the Erode Turmeric Merchants Association sales yard, the finger turmeric fetched ₹5,511-8,466 a quintal; root turmeric ₹5,211-7,518. Of the arrival of 3,059 bags, 1,591 were traded including the new turmeric.
