The Ministry of Small and Medium Enterprises on Wednesday gave additional charge of Chairman, Coir Board, to S N Tripathi, an IAS officer, who is a senior Joint Secretary in the Ministry, till further orders.
It has also been decided that before appointing a regular Chairman, the Ministry will examine the difficulties and opportunities before the coir industry, a Ministry release said. The Coir Board is a statutory body under the MSME Ministry.
The appointment was announced following the retirement of G Balachandran late last month, who belonged to Alappuzha district in Kerala, termed as the ‘homeland of coir’.
