IT stocks surged ahead on the BSE by close on Thursday. At 3.30 pm Wipro was the top gainer on the bourse, trading at Rs 638.30. This represented a gain of 3.34 per cent on its overnight close at Rs 617.65.
Infosys was up 2.10 per cent at Rs 2,187.05. The share had closed the overnight session at Rs 2,142.05.
TCS traded up 1.83 per cent at Rs 2,560 as against Rs 2,514 at close yesterday.
Axis Bank and HDFC were the two financial sector stocks in the limelight. Axis Bank shed some of its morning gains to quote at Rs 568.75. This was 1.69 per cent up on Wednesday’s close at Rs 559.30.
HDFC also gave up some of its early gains to quote at Rs 1,246.80. This was up 1.11 per cent on its overnight close at Rs 1,233.10.
The benchmark indices BSE Sensex and the NSE Nifty closed the day marginally in the red after being propped up for most of the session on value buying by investors. The Sensex ended the session down around 30 points at the 28,850 level and the 50-share NSE index Nifty fell 12 points to 8,711.70.
