Domestic stock market continued upward momentum for the fourth trading session amid positive global cues and strong foreign inflows.

Sensex climbed 244.92 pts or 0.29 per cent to 84,000.79 as at 12.40 pm after muted opening at 83,774.45, and Nifty 50 gained 86.50 pts or 0.34 per cent to 25,635.50.

Smallcap outperformed the midcap index at the time of writing. On the sectoral front, oil & gas, PSU Bank and metal indexes led the gaining momentum, while realty index dropped 1 per cent.

Top gainers & losers today

Shares of Jio Financial, IndusInd, Adani Enterprises, Power Grid and Asian Paints led the gainers of Nifty 50, while Bajaj Finance, Dr Reddy’s Laboratories, Grasim Industries, Bajaj Finserv and Eternal were the major laggards.

Nearly 1,803 stocks advanced and 963 declined of all the 2,864 stocks that were traded on the National Stock Exchange. HDFC Life, Dalmia Bharat, Bharti Airtel, Fortis, Gillette and IndiGo were among 71 stocks that hit 52-week high. Ola Electric and Digitide Solutions were among 19 stocks that hit 52-week low.

In addition, 77 stocks such as Aditya Birla Money, Thomas Scott (India) and SEMAC hit the upper circuit, while 29 hit the lower circuit.

Among the midcap segment, ATGL, Bharti Hexacom, Hindustan Petroleum, Dixon and IGL soared 3-5 per cent. Meanwhile, Godfrey Phillips, GSPL, MGL and Kfin Tech zoomed 4-10 per cent under smallcap segment.

Shares of Union Bank, Bank of Maharashtra, PSB, Bank of Baroda and Bank of India led the PSU Bank index with nearly 2 per cent increase.

Bharat Dynamics, Solar Industries, Unimech, GRSE and Zen Tech surged close to 2 per cent, driving the defence index up by 1 per cent.

On the BSE, HSCL rallied 14 per cent. Akzo Nobel India zoomed 8 per cent. On the losing side, TD Power, Cohance Lifesciences, Oberoi Realty, Home First declined 3-5 per cent.
