Aditya Birla Capital’s flagship ‘ABCD’ digital app has suffered a cyberattack, according to sources. An unidentified hacker breached the app and sold digital gold amounting to nearly ₹2 crore from the accounts of 435 customers.

“The digital gold holdings were restored to affected customers soon after the hack. We have taken corrective actions to freeze fund transfers across multiple bank accounts,” a source said.

According to company officials who requested anonymity, the technical vulnerabilities around the cyber hack have been resolved and the app’s digital gold services are secure and live. The ABCD officials are working with cyber insurance partners, law enforcement and CERT-In to ensure implementation of corrective actions and a probe is on-going to find the perpetrators of the cyber hack.

Aditya Birla Capital invested ₹100 crore to build the ABCD app, which officially launched in April 2024 with over 22 products.

In September last year, Pankaj Gadgil, MD & CEO, Aditya Birla Housing Finance and head of digital platforms at ABCL, told businessline that ABCD had registered over 1.2 million new customers through its newly launched ABCD platform as of August 2024, and was confident of achieving its target of on-boarding 30 million new users via the digital platform over three years.
