The Central Power Research Institute has commissioned a new outdoor test system at UHV (Ultra High Voltage) Research Laboratory located near Hyderabad.
This high voltage direct current test system facility has been established under the XI Plan capital project granted by the Union Ministry of Power with an outlay of Rs 120 crore. Such facility has been set up for the first time in the country, according to CPRI.
This facility is aimed at conducting high voltage direct current transmission line research as well as facilitating indigenous development and testing of equipment for the new transmission lines that are coming up in various parts of the country.
The system helps in conducting breakdown tests. The research facility meets the requirement of national and international standards to carry out tests on HVDC equipments, the statement said.
The new research centre was inaugurated by Major Singh, Member, Planning and Power Systems, Central Electricity Authority, Government of India, here recently in the presence of senior officials from the power sector and CPRI staff.
