It was a momentous moment for Chennai Metro Rail Ltd when the Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) broke the last piece of the wall at Thirumangalam station at 11.45 am to mark the completion of the tunnel mining between Thirumangalam and Shenoy Nagar.
This project contracted to Transtonnelstroy-Afcons joint venture was the first underground stretch (both direction) to be completed among the five packages given to various consortium.
The first tunnel of 2.797 km long tunnel was completed a few days ago. Today’s completion was the parallel tunnel. The underground stretch will link to the elevated line from Koyambedu to Alandur and St Thomas Mount. - Photos: T E Rajasimhan
