Former president of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India T.N. Manoharan exhorted students to be consistent in sticking to values throughout and constantly update their knowledge.

Inaugurating the Business Line Club of the Department of Master of Business Administration (MBA), Sri Meenakshi Government College for Women in the city here, he said that students should overcome the unemployability syndrome by filling up their knowledge bank and updating their skill sets required by the industry. This is applicable, more so in the case of students from disadvantaged background and sections. They should spend five years of their life in a relentless pursuit for knowledge and update their skills for a bright and comfortable future. Opportunities are available in plenty and human resources are available in abundance. The need is to update the knowledge using technology and, at the same time, sticking to fundamental values, he underlined.

The event was sponsored by Tamilnad Mercantile Bank (TMB),Tuticorin.

Presenting a list of 10 qualities required to succeed, he said that students should beginlife's journey with a dream that would take them to the summit. He emphasised that students from Government colleges, especially, should shed their inferiority complex and aim at converting the weaknesses into strength. Exhorting them to do things with passion, he said passionate knowledge gathering at a young age will determine the future course of their lives.

Stating that the greatest strength of an individual is not in never falling but in rising up after every fall, he reminded that there was nothing called “the end of the road” in life. He, however felt that these qualities alone, were not enough to propel a person into the growth trajectory.

The need is to maintain humility and follow ethics and values at all times, to sustain one’s success.

P. Ravichandran, Regional Manager, TMB, in his address said that mere academic learning was not enough to become leaders. Those aspiring to be leaders should cultivate qualities such as self-awareness, self-confidence, openness to change and optimism.

S. Rajarajeshwari, Department of MBA, earlier, welcomed the gathering.
