Nallari Kiran Kumar Reddy, who had severed links with the Congress and quit as CM of Andhra Pradesh last month, announced a move on Thursday to form a new party.
“The party, whose name is not disclosed, will be formally launched at a public meeting slated to be held at Rajahmundry on March 12,” he said at a news conference in the presence of some leaders including Sabbam Hari, Lagadapati Rajgopal, Harsha Kumar and Sai Pratap.
He said: “I was opposed to the way the AP State Reorganisation Bill was handled right from the beginning and also hustled through in Parliament, against the wishes and general sentiments of the people. Its (new party’s) objective is to ensure that Telugu people do not suffer.”
Having filed a petition in the Supreme Court earlier today challenging the validity of the Telangana Bill, he said the entire approach adopted by the Congress and BJP, who ensured that the Bill got passed, was undemocratic.
They have brought disgrace to Parliament and democratic processes, he added.
Unfortunately the Congress and the BJP came together to pass the Bill and regional parties TDP and YSR CP were party to the whole process, failing to address the issue, Kiran said.
In fact, N Chandrababu Naidu, who served as CM for nine years and Opposition leader for 10 years, failed to express his views. YSR CP leader YS Jagan Mohan is dreaming of becoming a chief minister, he said.
