As land acquisition for industrial use becomes a vexed issue across the country, the Karnataka Government proposes to go in for joint development with land owners.
Also, the State is looking at promoting smaller sized industrial areas, say of 10 to 20 acres, mainly for the small scale sector at the village level, said Satish Jharkiholi, Minister for Small Scale Industries and Excise, Government of Karnataka.
"We already have the concept of joint development in the housing sector in the state. We are exploring the option to extend the same to the development of industrial areas. Also, we are seriously thinking of having smaller industrial areas for the SSIs," Jharkiholi told reporters on sidelines of the Instant Foodie Expo 2015 on Thursday.
Jharkiholi, who recently took over the additional portfolio of Small Scale Industries, said the Government was keen that industries grow outside of Bengaluru. He said the industrial areas would have reservation for food processing units and women entrepreneurs.
About 35 food processing companies are participating in the Instant Foodie Expo 2015 organised by 3G Expovisions (P) Ltd.
