French beauty major L’Oréal on Wednesday said that it has appointed Amit Jain as its new India Managing Director, effective August 1 making him the first Indian to lead the company’s operations in the country.

He will succeed Jean-Christophe Letellier, who is set to take up a senior position within the L’Oréal Group, after a five-year stint in the role.

The company said that besides India, Jain will also look after its operations in Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Nepal and will report to Pierre-Yves Arzel, Vice-President - South Asia-Pacific Zone, and Jochen Zaumseil – Vice-President, APAC.

In his last role, Jain held the position of the Managing Director, North-West Europe for Akzo Nobel and was based in Amsterdam. In the past 30 years, he has worked with various companies such as ICI, Coca-Cola, Viacom and Akzo Nobel.

In a statement, Pierre-Yves Arzel, Vice-President - South Asia Pacific Zone, L’Oréal, said, “Under Jean-Christophe Letellier’s his leadership, the country experienced significant sales growth, revolutionised digital and e-commerce platforms, and achieved ambitious targets in skill development and environmental sustainability.”
