The Tirunelveli District Chamber of Commerce and Industry (TDCCI) has sough the establishment of an industrial estate for small and tiny industries.
A delegation led by TDCCI President and industrialist Gunasingh Chelladurai of Bell Group of Companies submitted a memorandum to the District Collector C. Sathyamoorthy recently, stating that authorities should take steps for establishing an industrial estate for small and tiny industries at Ponnakudi, on the outskirts of Palayamkottai and on the Tirunelveli-Nagercoil four-lane national highway.
The proposal, if acted upon, will see the district benefit from this vital sector providing employment to a few thousands of skilled and unskilled youths.
The memorandum further said that an information / guidance centre should be formed in Tirunelveli to inform the aspiring youths about the opportunities available in the market and the assistance, especially subsidised loans, being extended by the State and the Central Governments for starting new industrial units.
