Tamil Nadu Chamber of Commerce and Industry has sought systematisation of power supply in the State.
The Chamber President N. Jegatheesan and senior president, S. Rethinavelu, in a statement here said that in the last few days, unscheduled intermittent power shutdown for more than ten hours daily in the State, especially in the southern districts has severely impacted trade and industry.
It has severely impacted industrial output and affected small scale units from running even one shift in a day, leading them to the verge of closure.
Since Tangedco possesses clear details about availability of power and daily requirement in different parts of the State, it is easy for it to decide in advance the duration of power shutdown to be enforced in each region.
They said that the chosen procedure should be enforced uniformly throughout the State including Chennai.
Any preferential treatment to Chennai area alone with shorter duration of power shutdown will activate the cost of production of industries in the rest of the State forcing them to face unequal competition with their counterparts in Chennai area.
