To lure cruise travellers, Erode-based garment and cotton industries have planned to set up temporary stalls in Kochi Port to display their products during the visit of premium cruises vessels.

The first such stall will be set up on June 1, when the premium cruise vessel ‘Ovation of the Seas’ is scheduled to anchor at the port as part of its global voyage.

A decision to this effect has been taken at an interactive session organised by the Kochi Port in association with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) with the Exim trade in Erode zone.

The industrialists at Erode especially those in the food processing industry are also enthusiastic about supplying to cruise vessels and other vessels calling at Kochi.

Highlighting the measures to support the exporters from Erode zone, G Senthilvel, Chairman-in-charge pointed out that the introduction of Green Channel for Exim cargo at Walayar Check Post has enabled quick clearance of both Customs/Excise sealed and self-sealed containers.

Besides, the direct sailings to Europe, the Mediterranean and the Far East, in addition to the regular sailings to the Gulf and Colombo from the port has given the trade a 7-day transit time benefits and savings of $100 to $200 in overall supply chain cost for European bound exports.

The commencement of regular service by Concor from Kochi to Coimbatore and vice versa to carry export containers and empties has reduced overall cost. Coimbatore Inland Container Depot is providing facilities for consolidating LCL cargo from Erode, he added.
