The growth of IT sector at 12-14 per cent per annum is assured and there need be no apprehensions on that count, according to BV Mohan Reddy, Chairman and Managing Director of CYIENT (formerly Infotech).

He was speaking at the inaugural of the two-day annual convention of the Computer Society of India here on Thursday. The theme of the convention was IT for India Tomorrow.

He said the sector would grow to $ 300 billion by 2020 at the present rate from the present level of $ 147 billion. However, there should be greater emphasis on skill development as many engineering graduates from colleges in AP and Telangana were not employable. He said Visakhapatnam would emerge as a hot IT destination with the steps being taken by the AP Government.

In his inaugural address, P Madhusudan, the CMD of Visakhapatnam steel plant, said the speedy growth of manufacturing sector in India can be ensured by finding the right IT solutions for improving efficiency and cost reduction.

PC Mohapatra, the Director (Projects), said software development in India was much cheaper than in western countries. P Sudhakar, the CMD of ECIL, Hyderabad, in his key note address stressed the importance of ICT for developing the 100 smart cities in the country. HR Mohan, the national chairman of CSI, spoke about the opportunities in 3 D printing and robotics.
