Political equations in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh will take an interesting turn with Telugu filmstar Pawan Kalyan, who floated the Jana Sena last week, announcing all-out support to the Bharatiya Janata Party’s Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi.
“Modi’s leadership will do well for the Telugu people,” he told the media, emerging from his meeting with the BJP leader yesterday.
The Lok Satta Party too has announced that the BJP could be a potential partner to it. LSP President Jayaprakash Narayan wrote an open letter to his party activists justifying the move. He said the BJP is a better choice than the Congress on all counts. He said any alliance would be on LSP terms or not at all.
While launching the party in Hyderabad, Pawan Kalyan made a blistering attack on the Congress party for dividing the State without taking into consideration the concerns of the people.
Pawan Kalyan flew to Gandhinagar to discuss a likely tie-up ahead of the ensuing general elections. Reports suggest that the BJP is likely to sail with the Telugu Desam Party in residual Andhra Pradesh.
Interestingly, Pawan Kalyan spared the TDP and BJP, while criticising leaders of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi, the Congress party and making indirect comments against the YSR Congress Party. “He is a good man,” he said when a fan shouted for his views on the TDP President.
The TDP-BJP-Jana Sena-Lok Satta alliance, if it happens, will give it the heads up against YSR Congress Party in Seemandhra, consolidating the anti-Congress and anti-Jagan sections there. Pawan Kalyan could also help the alliance draw votes of a powerful community.
But it will be interesting to see how voters in Telangana react. Pawan Kalyan has good fan following in Telangana but how voters view his association with the BJP-TDP, if it fructifies, remains to be seen.
Meanwhile, Jana Sena is busy making arrangements for Pawan Kalyan’s second meeting, his first in Seemandhra on March 27, when he is expected to release the book ISM – Ideology of Jana Sena Party that contains his views on society, politics and means to face the challenges society faces. He co-authored the book with Raju Ravitej, whom the film star referred to as the ‘only man behind him’.
