Kochi has emerged as the first city in India to offer live public transport tracking and an integrated journey planner encompassing buses, ferries and even metro.

This has been made possible with the launch of Chalo app which integrates all modes of public transport into a single live-tracking and journey planner tool for the city. With this, Kochi joins an elite rank of global smart cities that offer technology-enabled public transport services for their residents.

The Chalo app has been launched here on Friday by the State Transport Minister A.K. Saseendran. It has been conceptualized by Urban Mass Transit Company and executed by Chalo, under the Integrated Public Transport Policy of the Kerala Government, with the assistance of Kochi Metro Rail Limited as part of the project ‘Seamless Transportation for Kochi’.

The Minister in his speech pointed out that around three per cent of travelling people are giving up public transport for private vehicles, which is is a dangerous trend as it increases traffic congestion, accidents and traffic jams. In addition, it calls for more fuel consumption, which is detrimental to the environment.

The residents of Kochi can experience the Chalo app right away by downloading it free from the Google Play Store. The app is aligned with KMRL’s vision to revolutionize public transport and to get people from all walks of life to utilise public transport.
