Senior bureaucrat in the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) P.K. Mishra visited Ahmedabad on Sunday to assess the ground situation following the crash of Air India’s London-bound flight.

Accordingly, Mishra, who is the Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister reviewed the accident site, met with bereaved families at the civil hospital and directed authorities to provide full assistance.

Besides, Mishra inspected the DNA sampling being done at the Forensic Science Laboratory and stressed the need for swift identification.

During a high-level review meeting, Mishra discussed ongoing relief, rescue and investigation efforts with senior officials.

At present, the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) has launched a probe, and the US National Transportation Safety Board is conducting a parallel investigation.

The Flight Data Recorder and Cockpit Voice Recorder have been located and secured.
