Hinting that he may move the Supreme Court against the Karnataka High Court’s decision to acquit AIADMK supremo J Jayalalithaa in the disproportionate assets case, senior BJP leader Subramanian Swamy said the verdict “surprised” him.
Swamy, a complainant in the case, said such twists and turns are expected in a democratic system.
“We can’t do much about it because delays are done by the accused. She has now earned the right to be sworn as the Chief Minister again,” he added.
The otherwise vocal Swamy was not his aggressive best after the verdict. Inferences are being drawn that he has been asked by his party, the BJP, to maintain a low profile.
At one of his interactions with media persons, he said there was nothing unusual about losing a case and added that an appeal is desirable.
“If this is lost, then there is an appeal. She lost in the Sessions Court and went for an appeal. Now let us see what happens in the further appeal,” he said.
Swamy also tweeted that when Jayalalithaa was convicted by the Session Court it was portrayed as Kannadiga bias.
“She is now acquitted by KHC (Karnataka High Court) so vindication and justice (sic). If SC convicts her then?” he asked.
