As many as 17 Indian business firms are participating in the 26th edition of Lagos International Trade Fair (LITF) which started on Friday.

India has a pavilion at the popular Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS) that spans 150 square meters which is one of the largest at the trade fair. The fair will end on November 11.

“It is the largest ever participation by Indian businesses in Lagos International Trade Fair and it underscores the significance of India—Nigeria bilateral ties.

“It is hoped that India’s participation will further enhance our bilateral trade”, Indian High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mahesh Sachdev told PTI at the venue of the exhibition in Lagos.

The Indian participation at the LITF (Nigeria) is being organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry, New Delhi.

On display at the Indian Pavilion are products like fashion garments, costume jewellery, handicrafts, wood carving, stainless steel items, kalamkari hand paintings, cotton silk sarees, handloom jute products and home furnishings.

The oil rich African country’s President Goodluck Jonathan who declared the exhibition open said the fair provides opportunities for buyers and sellers to establish long—term business partnership.

Jonathan congratulated the Lagos Chambers of Commerce and Industries (LCCI) for sustaining the trade fair for the past 26 years.

In September, an Indian business delegation to Nigeria had invited the African country’s businessmen to the 6th Vibrant Gujarat 2013 Summit. They said the state serves as the gateway to India’s economy.

Bilateral trade between Nigeria and India stood at over $17.3 billion and India is currently Nigeria’s second largest trading partner.
