At a time when smartphones are getting bigger and feature-packed, we are also seeing a slow, partial revival of feature phones that just do the basics, along with add-ons like MP3 players and FM radio — a throwback to a few years ago. Elari’s NanoPhone C, a tiny little gadget billed to be the ‘world’s lightest phone’ is quite an intriguing device.

NanoPhone C is termed an anti-smartphone meant for digital detox. When it comes to design, at first glance, the phone can be mistaken for a voice recorder or a small remote control. It comes with an aluminium body and has a thin and sleek design and it fits in your palm. The phone weighs only 30 grams and has a thickness of 6.8 mm. It sports an old-fashioned keypad with oval shaped buttons. Initially, I faced some difficulty getting adjusted to it.

The phone comes with a one-inch TFT colour display. It has only 32 MB of internal memory but supports micro-SD cards up to 32 GB. The phone supports micro-SIM and can save up to 1,000 contacts. It also has old feature phone add-ons such as MP3 player, FM radio and alarm and voice recorder.

This little phone can be paired with any smartphone via Bluetooth to make or receive calls. People can install an additional SIM card into the NanoPhone C, Bluetooth-pair it with their smartphone, and use either of the two numbers to make and receive calls with access to both phonebooks.

The NanaPhone C comes with a Magic Voice function. With this function, you can make prank-calls with funny noises and fool your friends.

As the size indicates, the phone sports a tiny 280 mAh Li-Polymer battery. The company claims that the phone has battery life of up to four days in standby mode and up to four hours of talktime. But unfortunately, it doesn’t last as long, as stated; I got only a maximum of two days on standby mode and if you are a frequent caller it lasts barely a day.

Overall, you can use the NanoPhone C as a backup phone and a main phone if you want to stay away from the internet for a while. For its utility, it is on the costly side because there are many options available in the market for secondary use, like the new Nokia 3310.
