Electrical equipment-maker, Havells India is planning to launch solar LED-based lighting products “shortly”.
The solar LED lighting system will be based on technology developed by Bengaluru-based Promptec Renewable Energy Solutions, a company in which Havells acquired a majority 51 per cent stake earlier this year.
“We are looking to launch solar LED lighting products shortly,” YK Gupta, Associate Director, Havells India, told reporters during a press conference here in the city.
The LED (light emitting diode) lighting business accounts for nearly a third of the company’s lighting business. Apart from Havells India, Philips, Eveready Industries and Syska LED are the major domestic players in the segment.

Meanwhile, Gupta added that the company was planning a Rs 100 crore to Rs 120 crore capex this fiscal.
A part of this amount will be spent towards raising its circuit breaker manufacturing capacity at Baddi in Himachal Pradesh, by 50,000 poles per day to 150,000 poles a day. It currently produces 1,00,000 poles a day.
“The new range of circuit breakers are more secured and user friendly. It will be available at the same price as our existing circuit breakers,” he said during the launch of the new range of circuit breakers here.
Apart from ramping up the circuit breaker manufacturing facilities; the remaining amount of capex will be spent towards maintenance of its remaining manufacturing units. Havells India, currently, has six other units in the country.
“Over the last seven to eight years, we have invested Rs 1,100 crore in our facilities. Apart from maintenance and ramping up the circuit breaker unit, no major capex has been planned for the next two years,” Gupta said.
Eastern Region
Commenting about the eastern region, the associate director said that it expects around 15 – 16 per cent growth in revenue here.
The eastern region accounts for nearly 23 per cent of the total revenue of the company.
