Central Public Sector Undertaking NTPC has threatened to ‘regulate’ power supply to Telangana, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh from February 9 due to payment delays.
In separate notices posted on NTPC’s website, the power generator said the three southern states have not paid bills totalling ₹ 4,138.39 crore for over two months now. The dues include payments for power supply from thermal and solar power projects.
NTPC cites CERC guidelines on regulation of power supply while issuing the notices and notes, “In case of the outstanding dues or in case the required letter of credit or any other agreed payment security mechanism is not maintained as per the agreement, the generating company may serve a notice for regulation of power supply on the defaulting entity, for reducing the drawl schedule.”
The company said it will regulate power to these states for three months from February 9 till the dues are cleared.
The three states could lose 3,470 MW of power supply from NTPC’s Ramagundam, Simhadri, Talcher and Kudgi power plants if payments are not made.
