The Government on Friday doubled incentives available on onion exports to 10 per cent from the existing 5 per cent with an intention of improving the domestic prices of the bulbous vegetable in the country.
According to an official statement issued, onions exported under the Merchandise Exports from India Scheme (MEIS) would receive this incentive. While there was no export incentive available earlier, the government in July this year decided to give an export incentive of 5 per cent to encourage exports.
The decision to increase it further was decided keeping in mind the fact that mandi prices remained subdued of late as there was an increase in fresh arrivals.
