Heavy rain was reported from parts of Kerala, Mahe and Vidarbha until 5.30 am this (Friday) morning as the low-pressure area over East India nearly stagnated over its location over north Odisha and adjoining plains of West Bengal while it was isolated over West Madhya Pradesh India Meteorological Department said. 

Compared to the previous day, the intensity and spread of rainfall were lower from Thursday to Friday morning. The northern limit of monsoon coverage remained unchanged across Jaisalmer, Bikaner, Jhunjhunu, Bharatpur, Rampur, Sonipat, and Anup Nagar. 

Monsoon coverage 

The IMD retained its outlook for the monsoon, which is expected to cover the remaining parts of the country over the next 3-4 days. The low-pressure area over north Odisha and adjoining plains of West Bengal is likely to move west-northwest across Jharkhand and north Chhattisgarh during this period.

The facilitating trough persisted as it ran down east from the northeast Arabian Sea, linking with the low-pressure area across south Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh, extending between 1.5 & 7.6 km above mean sea level. Upper air cyclonic circulation persisted in tandem over north-east Madhya Pradesh and south-west Rajasthan.

Heavy to very heavy rain 

These features will continue to sustain heavy to very heavy rainfall over Gujarat, Konkan, and Goa, as well as the Ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra in West India, for the next six days. 

In North-West India, very heavy rainfall is forecast for Himachal Pradesh and Haryana on Sunday, East Rajasthan for two days, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh for four days, and Punjab for three days. Isolated heavy rainfall is also likely over Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and East Rajasthan for the next six days; over West Rajasthan, Jammu, and Kashmir for the next three days; and over Uttar Pradesh for the next five days, starting from tomorrow (Saturday). 

In Central India, very heavy rainfall is forecast for West Madhya Pradesh today (Friday) and Tuesday and Wednesday next; East Madhya Pradesh on Monday and Tuesday; and Jharkhand on Sunday. Isolated heavy rainfall is forecast over Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, and Jharkhand for six days; over plains of West Bengal for four days; Vidarbha for today (Friday); hills of West Bengal and Sikkim and Bihar for four days. 

Over the South Peninsula, very heavy rainfall is predicted for Coastal Karnataka today (Friday) and for two days in Kerala. Isolated heavy rainfall is likely over Kerala for three days and Tamil Nadu for two days.
