The Indian Institute of Management - Ahmedabad (IIM-A) on Monday announced the closing of final placements for the 2018 Class of Post Graduate Programme (PGP) held across three clusters, with students being placed in more than 23 cohorts. About 125 firms from within India and outside participated, offering 150 different roles in the placement process.

The companies which made the most offers on campus included Accenture Strategy with 18 offers and The Boston Consulting Group (BCG) and Amazon with 14 offers each. In the BFSI cohort, American Express (8), YES Bank and FinIQ with six offers each topped the placements, global banks including HSBC and JP Morgan picked up five students each, while telecom major Airtel made eight offers, followed by FMCG giant HUL with five.

Tata Administrative Services (TAS) picked up seven students in the the General Management cohort, while IT behemoth Microsoft picked up eight -- the highest in the Enterprise Tech cohort. "IIM Ahmedabad has always encouraged students to take up entrepreneurship as a career and this year six students opted out of the placement process to work on their own ventures, under the guidance and mentorship of CIIE," an IIM-A statement said here.

The placement process was conducted in two stages. The first was the Laterals process where firms interviewed students with prior work experience and offered them mid-level managerial positions. Over 47 firms picked up from diverse sectors such as technology, banking, consulting, general management and analytics. he second stage of the final placement process had firms grouped into cohorts based on the profile offered, and groups of cohorts were invited to campus across different clusters.

Other prominent names included A.T. Kearney, Bain & Co., McKinsey & Co., Monitor Deloitte, Oliver Wyman, Barclays, Citi Bank, Credit Suisse, Deutsche Bank, Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan, Standard Chartered. In the Private Equity & Venture Capital cohort top players included Kedaara Capital and Matrix Partners, while others in the BFSI cohort were Bajaj Finserv and Fullerton, among others. The consumer majors included Nestle, P&G, Reckitt Benckiser and Wipro Consumer Care as top recruiters.

Sandeep Murisetty, the Recruitment Secretary at IIM Ahmedabad said, "Keeping up with last year's trend, we saw a significant rise in the number of students finding their dream jobs post their first job offer. The flexibility given to students in the cluster cohort process combined with the strengthening of upcoming cohorts in clusters 2 and 3, has diversified placements across new sectors.”
