Days after the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi got the Institute of Eminence (IoE) tag, it has been working on attracting foreign students for its programs. However, the target for now are the PhD students.
"Due to the structure of admission process (UG through JEE), initial attempts would be to target PhD students through fellowships and assistantships", said V Ramgopal Rao, Director, IIT- Delhi.
The institute also plans to attract the faculty from across the globe.
To focus on getting foreign faculty, IIT- Delhi has been working on creating awareness of the research infrastructure as well as the academic eco-system.
"IIT Delhi will be spending a total of about Rs. 2500 crores (which includes Rs 1000 crore IoE grant) in enhancing its research facilities, physical infrastructure and outreach in the next 5 years in its journey towards the IoE", said the official statement.
