“Don’t be trapped into thinking about boutique or small-sized industries, realise your full potential and break the mindset,” said Kiran Majumdar Shaw, CMD, Biocon Group.

Speaking at the concluding event at the ThinkBig 2016 Summit, Majumdar Shaw said women entrepreneurs should think big and build scale

“Ninety per cent per cent of women in India rely on their own funding... this has to change. Banks and VCs need to understand that women are worth investing in,” she explained.

Sonjoy Chatterjee, Chairman, Goldman Sachs India, said the Women Start-up Program at IIMB, which was launched during ThinkBig2016, was targeted at women with no previous entrepreneurial background but who were keen to set up ventures of their own.

Initially launched as a pilot, it is entirely free of cost for all participants, with the Wall Street financial services firm supporting the activities for a year.

The programme has been designed by Goldman Sachs India and Professor Suresh Bhagavatula, programme director and chairperson of the NS Raghavan Centre for Entrepreneurial Learning (NSRCEL).

ThinkBig 2016, Asia’s largest women entrepreneurship platform, concluded on Tuesday.

The two-day summit saw participation from 2,000 delegates from 19 states. The delegates were able to interact and network with 54 companies and their procurement specialists. Delegates from over 15 countries shared their views and interacted with the women entrepreneurs. ThinkBig 2016 brought together 300 industry leaders, 400 businesses, and 35 top banks to develop the thriving business ecosystem in Karnataka.

“This event has set an example for the rest of the world. We realise the need to nurture women entrepreneurs and help them solve their problems, including power problems, marketing and subsidy. This event has initiated a great platform for many such women to come together,” said K Ratna Prabha, Karnataka Additional Chief Secretary. She also assured the delegates that the government would scale their efforts to achieve the expectations of women entrepreneurs.
