The famous Mariamman temple tank, built during the Tirumalai Nayak Period (1623-1659 AD), will be renovated at a cost of Rs.40 lakh, temple Executive Officer P.Jayaraman has said.
The Tank, even without water, attracted hundreds of tourists and pilgrims - both Indian and foreign - daily by its magnificent sculptures and beauty.
The tank, spreading to 88,450 sq mts, could store 18feet of water.The side wall of the tank had developed cracks, and hence it was being taken for immediate renovation, officials said.
