The ruling AIADMK’s newly-appointed Deputy General Secretary TTV Dinakaran on Thursday called on the party’s breakaway faction led by former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O Panneerselvam to come back into the fold.
At an interaction with the media after have formally taking over as the party’s Deputy General Secretary, Dinakaran, who is party chief VK Sasikala’s nephew, said if those senior leaders who recently left the party were to return, they will be accepted back in to the ‘Thaai party’ [mother party].
Earlier this month, Panneerselvam rebelled against Sasikala after he had to resign as chief minister when Sasikala made a bid for the post. But with the Supreme Court upholding her conviction in the disproportionate assets case, she was imprisoned. She brought in Dinakaran as her deputy and installed Edappadi K Palaniswami as Chief Minister.
Senior party leaders, including then Presidium Chairman E Madhusudhanan and Cabinet Minister K Pandiarajan joined Panneerselvam, only to be expelled from the party.
To a question on the growing public anger against the AIADMK after Paneerselvam’s exit, Dinakaran said it was a planned attempt by enemies to spread false propaganda. “We will win the Parliament elections and also retain power in 2021,” he said.
