The service tax cell of the Central Revenue Department on Thursday arrested two persons, Bijoy Kumar Agarwal, Managing Director of Kolkata Cable & Broadband Pariseva Ltd, and Prasun Kumar Das, a Director of the company, for alleged Rs 5.52 crore service tax default.
Both have been produced before the judicial magistrate’s court. Investigations are still in progress, the department said.
KCBPL is engaged in providing cable TV service as a multi system operator. According to a department note, the company had collected service charges, but did not deposit it with the Government. This is a cognizable offence and punishable up to 7 years of imprisonment. The department has the authority to investigate, arrest and prosecute in service tax default cases.
