Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu expressed shock at the extent of devastation wrought by the cyclone, Hudhud, and said here on Monday that all steps would be taken to mitigate the suffering of the affected people. He urged the Union Government to declare it a national calamity and come to the rescue of the State.

He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh may visit the city on Tuesday, and he would brief them about the extent of damage caused by Hudhud. He visited fishing harbour and other affected areas. “I am shocked by the cyclone damage.  Vizag is ravaged,” he said.

The Chief Minister said he would camp in the city for the next three to four days to instil confidence among the people. He released a copy of a GO issued on Sunday to increase compensation for house/property/crop and cattle loss.

He said power, water and milk supply would be restored in most of the areas in the city first and later in other areas in North Andhra.
