This refers to the article “How senior Indians can build resilience against frailty” (April 7). It should appeal especially to those who have elderly relatives at home — how to help the ones in the (48 per cent) pre-frailty stage in checking the impending doom and how to attend to those (36 per cent) suffering from frailty in managing their daily routine in a caring manner. They do deserve the love, care and time from their children whom they have nurtured and sacrificed a great deal.
As Malcolm Forbes said, “We love our old folks but have little time to give them. However, a little more bit of time from their loved ones is the most precious gift he can receive and that we can give.”
And Rabbi Nachman of Bratzlaw rightly observed, “Gauge a country’s prosperity by its treatment of the aged.”

This refers to the news report ‘Amid tariff pressure, 50 bps rate cut by RBI on April 9 can be a good pre-emptive move: Economists’ (April 7). It was interesting to see economists urging a rate cut given the favourable global and domestic conditions.
However, Chief Economist with Piramal Group ‘batting’ for an aggressive rate cut of 50 bps, was going a bit too far.
Though there could be genuine scope for 25 bps rate cut, let us not get ‘impatient’ and be wise enough not to rush into such ‘knee jerk’ remedies to counter Trump’s tariff attack. Truly speaking, it should be best left to the wisdom of the six-member MPC to take the final call on this issue.

Apropos “Boosted by profits, crop insurance biz makes a comeback” (April 7).
When crop insurance is termed as a business, there must be proper appraisal of its terms with the cover seekers.
At present, most farmers are totally unaware of the fine-print of the scheme. Insurance companies must organise regular interaction with farmers at their location without merely circulating the document as an obligation; explain to them the cons and pros of the schemes and leave the selection to their choice.
Importantly, PMFBY or WBCIS must not be offered with only a profit in mind for the insuring companies, but legitimate loss cover.
