“You should love your job; you must be a person who is passionate about what you are doing,” former SBI Chairman Arundhati Bhattacharya has advised bank employees here.
Interacting with employees of Vijaya Bank after delivering Mulki Sunder Ram Shetty Memorial Lecture organised by the bank recently, Bhattacharya told working women: “You must really love what you do. Now by that I don’t mean that you should neglect everything else. I keep telling all my people that if you are a good worker you should also be a good home maker.”
Discouraging women from quitting, she said: “Giving up is so easy; it is a matter of writing that I am resigning. Love what you are doing; if you don’t love what you are doing, please do give up and do something else that you love.”
“You can’t be a good worker and a bad home maker; it does not happen. I constantly keep saying that giving up is a matter of a few minutes, and not giving up and hanging in there might take more courage, but if you do it, you will find that things work out somehow or the other.”
Sharing her experience, Bhattacharya said: “I don’t know if it’s divine intervention or something else — somewhere or the other solutions present themselves to you. Especially for women, the impetus is very strong to give up; just hang in there, because if you hang in there, things are sure to work out.”
