They say one should dream with eyes closed but live them with your eyes open. Well, I do both. Other than that, movies keep my heart alive, I really believe in the power of retail therapy. A dose of laughter, from sit-coms or otherwise, is my quest in life.

They need a shrink more than our votes

I have thrown up several times due to bad food choices. But this is the first time that somebody’s thought process has made me hurl.

Hence, I hereby call upon the world’s finest psychiatrists to offer their services to veteran politicians -- Abu Azmi and Mulayam Singh Yadav. Yes, they need a shrink more than they need our votes.

Why, you ask? Well, the Samajwadi Party chief believes that boys who commit rape make mistakes and it is unfair to punish them with death penalty.

According to a news report, Yadav was quoted as saying, " Rape ke liye phaansi dena galat hai, ladkon se galti ho jaati hai, hum satta mein aaye to kanoon mein badlav karenge (Handing death sentence for rape is not fair... boys make mistakes... there will be changes in the law if we come to power)."

I had heard (and also grooved to) Mann Se Hain Mulayam Aur Irade Loha Hai (Mulayam is soft at heart, firm in intention), the party’s campaign anthem adapted from Billy Joel’s song We didn’t start the fire, but never imagined that Mulayam would be ‘mulayam’ towards rapists too!

And that’s not it. He also said there would be changes in the tough anti-rape law if his party came to power after the 2014 general elections.

Yes, Yadavji, this is what the country needs to hear from our leaders! Please go ahead and while we are at this topic, why not introduce a law against making regressive and idiotic statements like these.

Azmi is one step ahead. He has gone on to the extent of saying, "Any woman if, whether married or unmarried, goes along with a man, with or without her consent, should be hanged.” He was answering a question by a national daily when asked for a solution to the problem of rape.

“Rape is punishable by hanging in Islam. But here, nothing happens to women, only to men. Even the woman is guilty. Girls complain when someone touches them, and even when someone doesn't touch them. It becomes a problem then... If rape happens with or without consent, it should be punished as prescribed in Islam.”

The solution to rape was hanging both the man and woman, he said.

That’s just great, isn't it? Hang the woman for ‘getting’ raped.

P.S. I am looking for the guy who slapped Kejriwal. There’s more work awaiting him.
