A fortnight after the Air India aircraft crashed in Ahmedabad, the Gujarat government on Saturday evening said mortal remains of all 260 persons killed in the aviation disaster have been identified and handed over to nearest kin, which includes bodies of 241 passengers and 19 non-passengers who perished on the ground.

While six bodies were identified without DNA testing, the rest of the 254 victims were identified through DNA sampling and testing, the Gujarat government said in an official release. Of the 260 victims identified, 181 were Indian citizens, 52 were British, nine from Portugal and one from Canada. Remains of 31 victims were transported to their families by air, while the rest 229 were transported by road.

While the mortal remains of the maximum number of victims were sent to parts of Ahmedabad (73), bodies were also sent to Maharashtra (13), Udaipur (7), Nagaland (1), Manipur (1), Kerala (1), Jodhpur (1), Diu (14), Patna (1), Vadodara (24), Kheda (11), Mehsana (7), Botad (1), Aravalli (2), Anand (29), Bharuch (7)Surat (12), Palanpur (1), Gandhinagar (7), Junagadh (1), Amreli (2), Gir Somnath (5), Mahisagar (1), Bhavnagar (3), Rajkot (3), Rajasthan (2), Nadiad (1), Banaskantha (2), Jamnagar (2), Patan (4), Dwarka (2), Sabarkantha (1) and London (13), the release added.
