Engineering major Larsen & Toubro said it is the first Indian industrial valve maker to receive the coveted ‘N' and ‘NPT' stamp from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME).

L&T's valve facility in Coimbatore that focuses on high-end valves for nuclear and thermal power has received the certificate of authorisation from ASME.

The ASME ‘N' stamp certification covers nuclear vessels, pumps, valves, piping systems, storage tanks, core support structures, concrete containments, and transport packaging.

The ‘NPT' stamp relates to fabrication, with or without design responsibility, for nuclear appurtenances and supports.

The ASME certification enables L&T to join the exclusive group of manufacturers authorised to supply valves for nuclear power in the global arena.

L&T's valve plant is a part of its high-tech manufacturing hub there. The facility also houses a design office and R&D lab equipped to carry out functional qualification tests of nuclear valves.

L&T, which supplies valves to global majors in oil and gas and power, has a strong presence in the Indian nuclear power industry. L&T-made valves are in operation in nuclear installations across the country as well as major thermal power plants.
