Durgapur Steel Plant of SAIL has recorded a 5 per cent growth in saleable steel production in January over that in the first month of last year. In the just concluded month, DSP, according to a note, also achieved higher output in all major categories such as hot metal, crude steel, continuous casting, blend mix and sinter.
An all-time best January production was achieved in special steel and value-added products at 1,21,150 tonnes. In the finished steel category, the outputs of medium, structural and earthquake resistant TMT bars were at 104 per cent and 100 per cent of monthly targets.
During the period between April 2012 and January 2013, the plant registered 6 per cent growth in saleable steel production. “We are confident of sustaining the uptrend in production in the remaining two months of this financial year,” P. K. Singh, CEO of DSP, said.
