Manipal Universal Learning is planning to set up universities in Bangalore and Bhubaneswar along with two more locations in western and central India.
In an informal chat with presspersons on the sidelines of the award ceremony of scholarships to medical and engineering students from Konkani community here on Friday, Mr T.V. Mohandas Pai, Chairman of Manipal Universal Learning, said that the Karnataka Government has allotted around 120 acres for Manipal University campus in Bangalore.
Stating that Manipal University campus has already gone live in Jaipur, he said Manipal Universal Learning has been allotted around 70 acres in the first phase.
On the Bhubaneswar campus, he said the Chief Minister of Orissa has been apprised of the matter.
He has been requested to grant land for setting up the university there, he said.
Mr Pai said that locations for other two universities are yet to be finalised. However, they will be located in western and central India, he said.
All these universities in different locations will be known as Manipal University in their respective locations.
To a query on the investments in these universities, he said that around Rs 400-500 crore will be invested in each of these universities in the next 10 years.
“That is the kind of money required these days,” he said.
On the composition of courses in these universities, he said they will have courses in engineering, management and humanities.
If students take engineering, they can also take courses in logic, philosophy, dance, etc. This will help develop the softer part of their personality along with core subjects, he said.
