Genpact Ltd, a global BPO and business analytics firm, has tied up with the Calcutta University for jointly developing and running a research and analytics programme.

Amit Bhaskar, Vice-President, Financial Services Analytics, told BusinessLine that the university’s economics and statistics departments would run an elective programme on analytics.

The programme, at the post-graduate degree level, would entail special lectures and workshops on the subject with a focus on its applicability in the banking and financial sector.

“Competitive strategies in predictive, descriptive modelling, research and regulatory risk management would be part the programme content. The training programme would begin from January 2015. Though there is no bar for the students to take up the subject, Genpact has committed to offer placement to 30 students, who opt for the programme, every year,” he explained.

Suranjan Das, Vice-Chancellor of Calcutta University, said Genpact have started recruiting students from the department since last year but now through this tie-up, the training and the placement mechanism would get a structured format.

Das asked the industry, particularly Genpact, to extend the analytics curricula to other streams, such as sociology, political science, foreign policy and women’s studies.

Partha Chatterjee, West Bengal Higher Education Minister, said that the industry-university partnership needed to grow in the State to take advantage of the demographic and skill dividend. The State Government plans to take an initiative for setting up a centre of excellence in the area of knowledge process outsourcing.
