Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu today launched the seventh facility of the healthcare major KIMS Hospitals in the city, called KIMS ICON Hospital.
The 434-bed hospital, spread across 17 acres, has 2 million sq ft area. It offers all the medical services in 30 departments with expertise in superspeciality and emergency care, said Bhaskar Rao, MD & CEO of the group.
With the addition of the hospital, the KIMS chain has 2,554 bed strength in its network of 7 hospitals in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. These are two in Hyderabad and one each in Nellore, Rajahmundry, Srikakulam, Ongole. The healthcare major is on an expansion mode both with independent hospitals and specialities and is looking to other cities in the South.
In his remarks, Venkaiah Naidu said while doctors and hospitals were providing the best, the focus should be on preventive care and early management of diseases. The modern lifestyle and eating habits influenced by the West were impacting the health of people and needs a serious re-examination he said.
He urged hospitals to take up more research into solving some of the problems affecting large population groups as well as in futuristic tehnologies and drugs that will cure diseases of the aged and related to mental health.
