Konkan Railway Corporation has said that around 770 personnel will patrol the Konkan Railway route during the monsoon season. A press release here on Monday said that vulnerable locations will be patrolled round the clock and watchers will be deployed at critical locations. Speed restrictions will also be imposed at vulnerable locations.
Loco drivers have been told to run trains at a reduced speed of 40 km per hour during heavy rainfall when visibility is limited. Self-propelled accident relief medical vans (ARMVs) are stationed at Ratnagiri and Verna in Goa along with accident relief trains. The release said that mobile phones have been provided to loco pilots, station masters and field officials. Loco pilots and guards have been provided walkie-talkie sets. Every station is equipped with a 25 watt VHF base station that enables wireless communication between train crew and station masters.
Emergency communication sockets have been provided every 1 km along the Konkan Railway route to enable the patrol-men, loco drivers and guards contact station masters and train controllers in emergency situations.
All main signal aspects are now LED for improvedvisibility, it said.
