Apropos ‘Teaching agri-business’ (April 3), agribusiness is expected to shape the future of agriculture into a more advanced, technology driven and more profitable sector. Mechanisation, food processing and supply chain management are the critical areas of agribusiness. Widespread adoption of precision agriculture and the latest technologies like AI is set to transform Indian agriculture.
Teaching agribusiness management as an independent discipline has become an imperative. A degree course on agribusiness management can prepare graduates to play a crucial role in not only in modernising agriculture and ensuring value addition and market connectivity, but also in the transition to AI driven transformation and promoting sustainable and climate resilient practices.

This refers to ‘Heat index must reflect stress in harsh conditions for risk analysis’ (April 3). Reckless urbanisation, cutting down of forests, use of plastic, and industrialisation have played havoc with nature. Besides government, the people too have a role to pay in reducing adverse effects of climate changes by cutting down on use of fuel and plastics, planting trees, using water and electricity prudently. Finally, every problem has a solution if our politicians think beyond politics and adopt a scientific approach.

This refers to ‘Poonam Gupta: RBI’s first woman deputy governor in 14 years, eminent economist’ (April 3). It was interesting to learn that Poonam Gupta is the first female deputy governor appointed at the RBI after nearly 14 years and fourth since the RBI came into existence on April 1, 1935. Since the next bi-monthly meeting of RBI mandated MPC is slated for April 7-9, the timings of her elevation to such a key position obviously assumes greater significance for various stakeholders.
