The Council of Leather Exports has made a strong pitch for funds to upgrade tanneries and adopt Zero Liquid Discharge technology to meet pollution control norms. Rajendra K Jalan, Chairman, CLE, said: “I’d would request EM Sudarsana Natchiappan, Minister of State for Commerce and Industry to kindly accord sanction under the Environment Protection Scheme of the DIPP.” Jalan said the industry in Tamil Nadu has already made submissions for grant of 50 per cent of the estimated ₹120 crore for four such projects in Tamil Nadu.
