The Sensex and the Nifty jumped over 0.7 per cent at the closing session on Friday led by IT, TECk, oil & gas and consumer durables sector stocks amid firm global cues.
The 30-share BSE index Sensex was up 173.47 points or 0.86 per cent at 20,366.82 and the 50-share NSE index Nifty was up 47.25 points or 0.79 per cent at 6,048.35.
IT and TECk indices gained the most by 1.39 per cent and 1.22 per cent, respectively, followed by oil & gas 1.21 per cent and consumer durables 0.94 per cent. Only healthcare index was down 0.12.
Tata Motors, GAIL, RIL, HDFC Bank and Infosys were the top five Sensex gainers, while the top five losers were Bajaj Auto, BHEL, Cipla, Hero MotoCorp and SBI.
Both European and Asian shares were up ahead of release of US industrial output data and the European Union GDP estimates.
