Neyveli Lignite Corporation Ltd has reduced power generation at its units in Neyveli as incessant rains had made the lignite used as fuel wet because of water logging.
While not disclosing the actual quantum of reduction in power generation, it has expressed the hope that normality would return shortly.
In a communication to the stock exchanges, NLC said that because of heavy rains in Cuddalore district in Tamil Nadu since Wednesday (Nov12), the mining operations were hit partially. The work of pumping out the water from the mines was going on. As the lignite has become wet due to water logging, power generation has been cut partially in all power stations and normalcy was expected shortly.
NLC said that the situation was not unusual as it occurred normally during the North-East monsoon season during October - December every year.
