Diagnostic chain Metropolis Healthcare Ltd will add 20 laboratories and 400 collection centres in India and abroad at an investment of ₹50 crore by the end of March 2018.

Ameera Shah, Promoter and Managing Director, Metropolis Healthcare, told BusinessLine that the company would strengthen its presence in existing markets and expand to regions such as the North-East where they do not have much presence.

More collection centres

“In the last one year we increased our collection centres from 800 to 1,200. We are planning to add another 400 collection centres and 20 labs in the coming year,” Shah said.

There are plans to add another 100-150 centres in Chennai, which has 100 centres in operation.

Currently, there are 1,200 collection centres and 150 laboratories across India and overseas countries like Kenya, Ghana, Zambia and Mauritius in Africa, Sri Lanka and Dubai.

The company is looking to expand in South Asia and African region. Shah said the company is in talks with players overseas and are open to acquisitions. Though Metropolis is not looking at private equity or debt right now, Shah said they are open to it depending upon the size of acquisition.

The chain offers 4,500 tests across different categories. Metropolis processes 30 million tests in a year, caters to more than 20,000 laboratories, hospitals and nursing homes and two lakh doctors.
